Putin seeks easier Russian-EU travel on road to visa-free regime
Traveling between Russia and the EU should be made as easy as possible as part of the transition to a visa-free regime, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday.
"We should move to a visa-free regime together with our European colleagues, since the majority of our partners in Europe support this idea," Putin said at a meeting with students at the Siberian Federal University in the eastern Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk.
Several EU states reject the idea, mainly for political reasons, he added.

Russia to raise import taxes on foreign cars to boost domestic market
Russia will gradually raise import duties on foreign cars to encourage international car producers to build new plants in the country, a Russian business daily said on Tuesday, citing Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
"In a few years, we will begin to gradually raise customs tariffs," Putin said. "We are not, after all, members of the WTO and [we] can afford it," he added.

Medvedev to discuss Skolkovo project with Swiss leader
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will discuss possible participation of Swiss companies in the Skolkovo research hub project with his Swiss counterpart Doris Leuthard, who will pay a working visit to Russia on Thursday.
Medvedev, who portrays himself as a young and technologically savvy leader, is seeking to improve the economic environment in the country and create incentives for domestic businesses to switch to a knowledge-based and innovative economy.

Russia, Bulgaria to hold Burgas-Alexandroupolis talks Sept 8-9 - Transneft
A Bulgarian delegation will hold talks in Moscow on September 8-9 on construction of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline, its joint project with Russia and Greece, Igor Dyomin, an official representative of Russia's oil pipeline monopolyTransneft, said on Tuesday.

The richest foreign professionals live in Russia, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, HSBC's Expat Explorer Survey said on Wednesday.
The HSBC Bank Expat Economic survey of 4,100 foreign professionals from 100 countries discovered the 25 best countries for expats according to annual income, monthly disposable income, and possession of luxury goods.
The survey revealed that Russia, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore, in that order, are the top five locations for expats.
One third of respondents in Russia said they earned over $250,000, while two-thirds of expats in Spain earned only $60,000 a year.

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev said the country's military-industrial complex must be modernized to retain its competitive status on the market.
"To retain our competitive position on the weaponry and special equipment market, we must actively modernize our military-industrial complex, introduce innovative technologies and new management methods, and attract young, talented professionals," the president said.

Kazakh, Ukrainian presidents to discuss gas cooperation in Kiev
Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev will visit Kiev on September 14-15 to discuss possible gas supplies from Kazakhstan to Ukraine with his counterpart Viktor Yanukovych, the Kazakh ambassador to Ukraine said on Monday.
The two leaders may sign an accord on the issue, but this will depend on existing Russian-Ukrainian agreements, Amangeldy Zhumabayev told reporters in Kiev.

Russian inflation 5.4 pct since start of year
Russia's consumer price inflation reached 5.4 percent since the start of 2010 and 0.2 percent in the week August 17-23, for a third week running, the Statistics Service said on Wednesday.
Since the start of August, inflation totaled 0.6 percent, the service said in a statement.
From the start of August 2009, CPI stood at 0.2 percent and 8.3 percent from the start of 2009. Consumer prices did not change in the whole of August 2009.
The Economic Development Ministry forecasts that prices will rise 0.5 percent in August following a rise of 0.4 percent in July.

Russia may build Chinese pipeline before South Stream - paper
Russian energy giant Gazprom may build a gas pipeline from Russia to China before it implements the South Stream project, planned for gas transportation across the Black Sea, a business daily said on Tuesday.
The Altai pipeline is expected to be launched between 2015 and 2018, while the launch of South Stream is not planned until 2015-2024, Vedomosti said, citing the latest draft of a gas sector development plan through 2030.
The Russian Energy Ministry, which penned the draft, will submit it to the government by the end of August, Vedomosti quoted a ministry official as saying.
